LaingBussion Awards 15th November 2017
LaingBussion is a "Health and social care market intelligence provider" who use data analysis to provide information to health care providers to improve structures, policies and strategy. Each year they host a UK Healthcare Awards for Excellence with a sponsored charity. This year CRUK was the awards charity partner. We did a few demos including the mobile immunotherapy demo, the "cellfie" desktop microscopes and clinical trial lemonade.
Imperial Fringe at the Invention Rooms 28th October 2017
As part of Imperial College London's new developments in White City they have set up the "Invention Rooms", a community centre that focuses on joining science in Imperial with the community in White City and Shepherds Bush. CRUK had a table there where we made "Cell Bracelets". Each bead on the bracelet represented a different cell type, showing how each tumour is made up of different cell types (immune cells, blood vessels, stromal cells etc.) and these cells can help us target the cancer more specifically. For example tumours with a lot of immune cells might respond better to immunotherapy in contrast to tumours with low immune cells.
Breast Cancer Now Wear It Pink Day 20th October 2017
21st Chiswick 10K Fun Run and Walk June 2017
For the last 21 years, CRUK supporters have held a fundraising event to run/walk around the Chiswick area to raise funds for CRUK in Hammersmith Hospital. Over the last 21 years they have raised over a staggering £1 million for cancer research. I had the pleasure to go to the run and say a few words of thanks as well as participate in the walk!

Here are a few sightseeing photos from my research exchange to Lyon.
Ovarian Cancer Action Christmas Raffle December 2016 (With Dr. Nair Bonito)
I had the absolute privilege to organize a Christmas Raffle with my colleague Dr. Nair Bonito. Our group (Cancer Epigenetics Unit) share an office with the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Center. We both admire the work that these talented scientists do and decided we would host a charity raffle for a brilliant cause. While I work on breast cancer, Nair has spent a good part of her research career trying to understand and treat ovarian cancer. Due to the huge amount of gifts donated by amazing companies we had 14 prizes. We also held a bake sale/tea morning. Thanks to the generous donations we raised £425 for Ovarian Cancer Action (and had a great laugh doing it).
With thanks to: Sigma-Aldrich (Merck), Roche, The East India Tea Company, Lego, L'Occitane, Rituals and T2 for their kind donations for our prizes.

Breast Cancer Now 'Wear It Pink' October 2016 (With Annelie Johansson)
Breast Cancer Now (BCN) holds a massive campaign every year during Breast Cancer Awareness Month called Wear It Pink. My colleague, Annelie Johansson, is funded by BCN. We held a movie night in one of our conference rooms. All the sweets were kindly donated by my supervisor, Dr. James Flanagan, and the cakes were lovingly baked and donated. We raised over £174 for a brilliant cause.
Breast Cancer Now Symposium July 2016
The UK Breast Cancer Now Symposium was held in July 2016. This two day conference brought together scientists in the field of breast cancer as well as patients and families who have been affected by breast cancer. It was a unique opportunity for breast cancer patients and families to learn about new and exciting breast cancer research as well as for us scientists to hear the experiences of breast cancer patients. In fact a remarkable woman, Emma Young, gave an impassioned speech about her experience with breast cancer. There wasn't a dry eye in the auditorium.
I had the privilege of presenting a poster at this conference of some of the work I've been doing.

Cancer Research UK Kids and Teens at the PGA Tour May 2016
Every year the PGA tour in the UK chooses a charity to support and in 2016 they chose CRUK Kids and Teens. Volunteers helped raise funds by selling event booklets and running golf themed games. I was there as a scientist to demonstrate some activities which highlight key areas in cancer research. The ball pit demonstrates the role of the immune system in cancer and how we can use immunotherapy to help fight cancer. The cellphone microscopes are simple homemade microscopes. You can use the camera on your phone to see slides like you would in a lab and then take a picture called a #cellfie.
All activities are designed by CRUK scientists in collaboration with the CRUK engagement teams.

World Cancer Day 4th February 2016
World Cancer Day is held every year on February 4th. A huge number of events are held all over the world to mark this day and to raise much needed funds for cancer research and care. The photos below were taken as part of CRUK's World Cancer Day 2016 campaign showing why scientists choose to research cancer and what motivates them.
Lab Pictures
The following are some pictures I have generated during the course of my work. I will try and explain them in the captions.
